Sexual fantasies… the majority of us have one or more. And some of these fantasies are so far removed from reality, making it even more appealing. In fact, some fantasies are ‘a fantasy’ because they’re so unrealistic. 

For example, in a study by Justin Lehmiller, more than half of those surveyed had fantasised about a fictional character and one third of respondents had fantasised about a mythical creature, such as zombies, vampires or werewolves. 

Lehmiller also found that one quarter of his test subjects had fantasised about a cartoon or anime character, and one sixth had fantasised about being intimate with an alien. But why is this so? And what is it exactly that is driving people to fantasise about and indulge in elements of sci-fi when it comes to sex, like watching alien porn?

Why are Sci-Fi Fantasies so Popular?

Just like any other fantasy, there is no one-size-fits-all. There are various reasons why one may be intrigued and/or aroused by sci-fi fantasies. Some common reasons include:

• The need for novelty: wanting to find something new in order to increase levels of arousal
• Active imagination: many who admit to being daydreamers often report a wide range of sexual fantasies
• A lack of or fear of emotional intimacy: that which can’t be formed with fictional characters

Why is There a Rise in Alien Porn Consumption?

At the end of every year, many people across the globe are quite intrigued for PornHub to release their infamous stats. That is, all the details about what people are watching and getting off to on their popular platform. And guess what ranked as number two in 2019? Alien porn!

So, what’s with this rise in popularity of alien porn? Well, it could very well be because of the viral Area 51 meme. In fact, the search “Area 51” went from zero to 160,000 in a mere four days after the event went viral. Even Google saw a spike with “What is Area 51” being one of the top searches of the year.

Another possible reason why sci-fi and alien porn consumption is at an all-time-high is because it has a way of removing the guilt surrounding watching strange or intense scenes performed by humans. 

When it comes to fictional characters, such as vampires, cartoons, aliens etc. violent and twisted depictions of sex are not of real people. This allows us to indulge in more extreme sexual fantasies while knowing that no humans were subject to sexual violence or degradation.

Who is Viewing Alien Porn?

While we now have one reason why there’s been such an increase in alien porn consumption, who is it exactly that’s viewing this kind of adult content? Interestingly, “Women are 33 percent more likely to search for and view alien porn than men,” according to Pornhub. 

This could largely be because women are more prone to being submissive in sex, and many vulva owners enjoy being dominated during sexual scenes. In these kinds of porn videos, it is often a woman being sexually seduced or invaded by an alien creature (not in an unwilling way, but in a dominant way).

Alien Porn and Consent

Just as we discussed the difference between watching intense scenes done by fictional characters leaving viewers with a ‘clearer conscience’, there is, of course, the added element of consent. 

The need for consent during alien porn scenes is different to that of earthly consent. And according to Pornhub’s expert Laurie Betito, not having to deal with consent may just be a part of the appeal. 

In other words, ‘shocking’ sexual fantasies, fetishes, and inquisitive desires are able to be fulfilled in the form of alien porn and other unearthly and or fictional adult videos. These desires can be fulfilled in such a way that real world norms, societal expectations, and ethical behaviours are non-existent, making it easier to get aroused without any of the shame or guilt.

Of course, everyone has their own reasons as to why they’re intrigued by these kinds of adult films, and why they have an inclination to watch them.
