Got your hands on your first SONA or contemplating your next sexual wellness purchase? Before you begin your sexual liberation, we’ll cover common topics like: what SONA is, how to use it, the technology behind it, cleaning techniques and more.
As you’ve probably heard by now, SONA is the first sonic massager that penetrates 75% more of the clitoris. It’s a wonderful weapon for women who orgasm from clitoral stimulation or have a preference for suction toys. If you’re interested in exploring more than just the tip of the iceberg, we’ll get into the details below.
How SONA and Cruise Control Work
SONA is made from 100% body safe silicone and ergonomically designed to fit naturally against your body with easy access to its controls. The SenSonic technology focuses stimulation on the deep internal parts of the clitoris through sonic pulses. Where you would usually find a motor, SONA has a sonic pad that oscillates to create these pleasurable waves.
There are two models that this gem comes in; SONA and SONA Cruise. This LELO exclusive “Cruise Control” technology solves the number one issue related to sex toys—loss of power during climax. This technology is developed to save 20% of overall power for when the toy is being pressed hardest against the body. This means that the toy will remain at consistent power as you climb your highest peak.
What’s New In SONA 2
Why not take our best product, and make it better?
With the help of women around the world, that’s exactly what we did. The second generation SONA 2 and SONA 2 Cruise come with 4 more modes (12 total!), a wider mouth to fit all the shapes and sizes of vulvas, and a longer battery life. Like 200 more orgams longer.
It also comes with a wider range of intensities to accommodate women who like soft stimulation or powerful stimulation.
How To Use SONA
OKAY, now for the fun stuff.
Take it nice and slow, make sure you don’t overdo it and always use lube. Our clits are packed with over 8,000 nerve endings — that’s double the amount of nerve endings on the entire head of a penis.
If that isn’t reason enough to remember to be super gentle, keep in mind that the tissue of the clitoris is thin and sensitive, so not listening to your body and overstimulating this area can lead to irritation and discomfort. We can get overzealous in our race to the finish line, especially with clitoral stimulators such as SONA, but we have to agree that pain is something to be avoided at all costs. We say this as a reminder to start slow and figure out what settings you love.
Some women prefer the stimulation directly on the clit, whereas others hover or stimulate on the labia minora (aka the “lips”). Some women even find it pleasurable on the nipples. Do some experimenting and discover whatever floats your boat!
Speaking of boats, like most LELO products, SONA is also 100% waterproof. That means shower, bath, and squirt-proof (this one’s a testament we’ve heard from a lot of customers, just saying).
How To Clean SONA
We recommend cleaning your device before you partake in each pleasure experience. You can do so by rinsing and using a toy cleaner, or even an antibacterial soap. Use a Q-tip to gently clean the inside of the mouth as well as the rim. We do not recommend using alcohol, petrol, or acetone.
You can store your SONA in the pouch it arrives with or in your personal pleasure chest, but avoid leaving it exposed to sunlight or any other extreme heat. Once you’re ready to retire your sex toys, please recycle them as you would your other electronic equipment.
How To Control SONA
Each SONA is locked for transportation so that the buttons aren’t affected during shipping. To unlock the buttons, simply press the + and – button simultaneously, or connect the device to the charger. We recommend a full 2-hour charge before use. To turn the toy on and increase the power, press the + button. Likewise, press the – button to decrease or turn off the device. The middle button ( ) controls the pulsation patterns, from slow and steady to fluctuating.
To charge the device, plug the charging cable into a USB port and the PSP tip into the bottom of the device, opposite the mouth. When the battery is low, the device will emit a blinking white light, and when it’s fully charged it will emit a steady white light.
The original SONA has a 1 hour usage time and 2-hour charge time, while SONA 2 has a 2 hour usage time and 2.5 hour charge time. Have no fear, the standby time for all the devices lasts up to 90 days without charge. We have a feeling you’ll be using it a lot more often than that though.
Recommended Positions for SONA Play
We’re all a bit guilty of the classic masturbation-on-back pose. Mixing it up can not only give us a different perspective on our sexuality, it can also harness gravity by letting our blood flow to our genitals and increase sensitivity.
If you’re looking to change things up, try using SONA while standing upright on your knees, or on all-fours holding the toy between your legs. Standing in the shower is another option. Let your imagination run wild with what gets you feeling your sexiest self!
How Does SONA Feel?
Well, that’s a tough one to answer. It’s kind of like trying to describe what an orgasm feels like to someone who’s never experienced one before. Imagine standing in front of a very large speaker at a concert, where the stimulation overcomes your entire being. It’s something like that.
This isn’t a clit sucker. SONA actually has a flat plate inside that moves back and forth to send resonating waves into your clitoris. Not only does SONA come with a wide range of power intensities, it also has a range of pulsation patterns; anywhere from a teasing murmur to toe-curling waves.
What Are Real Women Saying About SONA?
Review: Lelo Sona 2 vs. Sona 2 Cruise Clit Stimulators
“A *MEGAPHONE* to the clit—that’s what Lelo Sona pulsators can be. Tears literally well up in my eyes before I orgasm, and I can feel myself getting wetter by the second. At climax, I have to pull Sona 2’s mouth a little bit back from my vulva due to the strength, and I still sense the vibrating pulses traveling through my skin.”

Lelo Sona 2 – Review and comparison with Lelo Sona
“Intensely pleasant means that Sona 2 is not the kind of toy you use absently while browsing recipes online or sending emojis via whatsapp. On the contrary, it makes you focus on your body and sensations. Sona (in every version) was created for pleasure, period. The flipside is that one person’s “intensely pleasant” is another person’s “uncomfortable”, and this is all bout each one’s sensitivity.”
