I usually travel with sex toys, so I’m no longer self-conscious about it. Especially after the time I was stopped coming through Shenzhen airport with 32 solid gold butt plugs in my suitcase. For work, of course.
But for some reason, the knowledge that there’s a sex toy in your suitcase when you’re going through airport security makes you feel like you’re smuggling something illegal.
So, let’s clear it up once and for all…
Does Airport Security Know there are Sex Toys in Your Luggage?
Yes. Your sex toys will appear on x-rays in your hand luggage or your checked luggage. It security’s job to find everything in your bag, but they don’t care about what they find unless it’s potentially dangerous.
That saying about how they’ve seen it all before? It’s true. There is very little you could be carrying that would shock or surprise them. Just be upfront with them if you’re asked about it.
If your sex toys are electric, then they will set off metal detectors, so don’t try to hide it by walking through with it. Put it in your hand luggage and go through security like normal. If you have a checked luggage, even better to place it in there.
What About Countries Where Sex Toys Are Banned?
In areas like the Middle East, it’s illegal to bring sex toys into the country. Though people have successfully smuggled them into other countries, we suggest checking the territories where sex toys are illegal before embarking on your trip. There aren’t many and most likely you’re visiting a country where it’s perfectly legal to bring sex toys, but it’s best to know for sure.
